The Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines demonstrator

2024 Olympic Games

For the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Urbanloop won the call for projects from the transport innovation agency, in consortium with Keolis and Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.

Our demonstrator served the largest fan zone in the department during the Olympic Games and transported more than 35,000 passengers.

Now that it has reached the end of its operational life, the Saint-Quentin circuit will be dismantled in 2026. This operation will demonstrate the reversibility of our system.

A course set up in record time

Course definition

The system serves the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines leisure island: a first station is located near the leisure island parking lot, and a second serves the Fan Zone near the Olympic venues: the Velodrome and the BMX stadium.

Site installation & capsule production

The track was laid in a few weeks between December 2023 and February 2024. At the same time, teams at our production site in Tomblaine, near Nancy, assembled the capsules.

Delivery of capsules

Once all the capsules had been assembled in Nancy, they were shipped to the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines leisure park.

Test phase

Our team ensured that the system was operational and safe, conducting more than a thousand tests to certify that Urbanloop could transport passengers reliably. At the end of this period, we obtained authorization to begin operations from the Île-de-France Regional Prefecture, following consultation with the Technical Service for Ski Lifts and Guided Transport (STRMTG) and the DRIEAT (Regional and Interdepartmental Directorate for Environment, Planning, and Transport).

Operational training

We handed over the circuit to Keolis, which trained its supervision and reception teams for the opening to the public.

Approval & commissioning

Approved on July 24, our demonstrator will open to the public on July 27, 2024! This is a world first. More than 6,500 people used Urbanloop during the Olympic Games.
